The PALS course gives healthcare professionals the knowledge and skills to better recognize and treat critically ill infants and children. The course uses a scenario-based, team approach to teach pediatric emergency management of pediatric patients approaching or already in respiratory or cardiac arrest. The course covers treatment beyond the first few emergency minutes and goes through stabilizing patients or transport phases of a pediatric emergency, in or out of the hospital.
**The 2020 Pediatric Advanced Life Support book is required for this course. You may choose to purchase this through our website by clicking on the box to the right of the registration. If you choose not to purchase the book now, you are responsible for getting the manual before you come to class.
Certifications are good for two years.
Details
For healthcare providers who initiate and direct advanced life support in pediatric emergencies. For students seeking first-time or renewal credentialed PALS training.
Topics Include:
• Recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardio-pulmonary arrest
• The systematic approach to pediatric assessment
• Effective respiratory management
• Validate skills for 1- and 2-person CPR and AED skills for infant and child
• Defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion
• Intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration
• Effective resuscitation team dynamics
Prior to class, students should:
1. Review PALS for Provider manual
2. Complete Precourse Test & Precourse work
3. Review Cardiac Rhythms
a. Ventricular Fibrillation
b. Ventricular Tachycardia
c. PEA
d. Asystole
e. Bradycardia
f. Sinus Tachycardia
g. Supraventricular Tachycardia
4. Review Pediatric Algorithms
5. Review of Pediatric Pharmacology
